Alana Greco is a Clinical Psychologist with a special interest in the treatment of mental health concerns across the perinatal period. Alana has experience across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors and developed her passion for working with parents whilst working as a Psychologist at the Austin Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). Here Alana worked with children as well as adolescents and their families, to manage their mental health concerns using a combination of individual and family therapy, as well as dyad and parent work. Alana understands that the perinatal period is one of the most vulnerable times in an individual’s life and has a specific interest in working with parents as she feels that assisting them to manage their own mental health concerns in the early stages of their child’s lives, whilst holding the infants needs in mind, has a lasting impact on not only the parent, but a child’s attachment and overall development. This in turn can lead to decreased mental health concerns in the later stages of the child’s life. From her own parenting journey and professional experience, Alana also recognises the difficulties inherent in becoming a new parent including: adjustment to a new role as mother/father; the pressure placed on parents to do everything ‘the right way’; and the unfortunate stigma attached to seeking mental health support during this time. As a result, Alana aims to provide a safe and inviting space for individuals to discuss their concerns and receive evidence based, psychological treatment during this difficult period.
